Today in Rock History with Chris DeCarlo

July 24 |

On this day in 1967, a Rolling Stones concert in Blackpool, England, turned into a riot. Over 30 people were injured and they were banned from playing the city again, a law that stood until 2008.

In 1971, T.Rex has a #1 single in Britain with “Get It On.” In America, it was called “Bang A Gong” so it wouldn’t be confused with a song on the jazz charts with the same title.

And today in 1969, Paul McCartney played all the instruments on a demo version of his song “Come and Get It.” Badfinger’s note-for-note cover would be a top ten hit.
