On this day in 1968, The Yardbirds played their final show. Guitarist Jimmy Page immediately started forming the “New Yardbirds,” renamed Led Zeppelin by the following October.
Exactly a dozen years later, Led Zeppelin ended their European tour on this day in 1980 with a show in West Germany, their final gig with drummer John Bonham.
Speaking of drums, Happy Birthday to Sir Ringo Starr. The former Beatle and 2-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee turns 81 today.
