Today in Rock History with Chris DeCarlo

July 2 |

On this very day in 1971, the classic lineup of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon played their very first gig as Queen at Surrey College in England.

In 1969, two days after finishing the Denver Pop Festival, the Jimi Hendrix Experience broke up. Bassist Noel Redding and Drummer Mitch Mitchell quit, though Jimi would play with Mitchell again six weeks later at Woodstock.

And in 1981, Bruce Springsteen played the first show ever at the 21,000 seat New Jersey Meadowlands. All the shows in his 6-night run sold out in one hour.
