In 1981 Donald Fagan and Walter Becker announced the end of Steely Dan. They’d take a dozen years off before reuniting in 1993.
In 1975 guitarist Ritchie Blackmore quit Deep Purple to form his own band, Rainbow. He rejoined from 1984 to 1993, and though he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band in 2016, he didn’t attend the event.
And Sir Ray Davies, founder and leader of the Kinks, turns 77 years old.
