In 1969, David Bowie recorded ‘Space Oddity’ at Trident Studios in London. The session players included Rick Wakeman, later of Yes, on piano and mellotron.

Also in1969,  the Jimi Hendrix Experience netted the highest fee ever paid to a rock act for a single performance: $125,000 for a two-hour set at the Newport Rock festival in Northridge, California. Even Hendrix must have been blown away by the amount, because he returned the next day and played again for free.

And happy birthday to former Van Halen bassist and background vocalist Michael Anthony, who celebrates his 67th!
