The Beatles had their last #1 on the American singles chart today in 1970, ”The Long & Winding Road,” a Paul McCartney tune produced by Phil Spector. McCartney reportedly hated the final version, with Spector’s “Wall Of Sound” production.
In 1969, The Rolling Stones held a press conference in Hyde Park to introduce Mick Taylor as their new lead guitarist.
Also in 1969, “The Crazy World of Arthur Brown” broke up during their second US tour. Their drummer, Carl Palmer would eventually move on to Emerson, Lake and Palmer the following year.
