On this day in 1972, Paul McCartney released his version of the nursery rhyme, “Mary had a Little Lamb.” He did it as a jab at the BBC, who had banned his protest single, “Give Ireland Back to the Irish.” The single went Top-30 here in the U.S.
Today in 1969, Crosby, Stills, & Nash released their self-titled debut album, spawning two hit singles and eventually going multi-platinum.
And on this day in 1971, the Rolling Stones had the #1 single and album with “Brown Sugar” and “Sticky Fingers,” respectively.
