September 22

The first Farm Aid was held on this day in 1985 in Champaign, Illinois. Headliners included John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan.

After five years away, John Lennon returned to the music business on September 22, 1980, when he signed a contract with Geffen records. John & Yoko would release the “Double Fantasy” album a few months later.

In 1992, Bruce Springsteen decided not to go acoustic the day of his MTV Unplugged taping. He stayed electric, and the show was renamed “MTV: Plugged” for one episode.
