On this day in 1973, Paul McCartney’s first television special aired in the US, a glitzy show-biz extravaganza called “James Paul McCartney.” The highlight was a slick production number of his then-current hit, “Live and Let Die.”  

 In 1972 the Electric Light Orchestra made their stage debut at an English pub. They had a rough first tour; co-founder Roy Wood would sometimes stumble over his cords while changing instruments.  

And born today in 1943: “Lonesome Dave” Peverett, the late lead singer, guitarist and co-founder of Foghat.
