On this day in 1963 the two biggest bands of the British Invasion were in the same room for the first time: The Rolling Stones played London’s Crawdaddy Club with the Beatles in the audience.

In 1969, The Beatles recorded “The Ballad of John and Yoko.” Actually, it was just John on guitars and lead vocals, and Paul on bass, drums, piano and background vocals, but the entire song was done in a single evening.

And in 1975, The Rolling Stones officially announced that Ron Wood was their new lead guitarist, replacing Mick Taylor.
