In 1972, Mott The Hoople announced their break up. David Bowie, a big fan, said he’d produce their next album if they stayed together. He also offered them two songs: one of which, “All The Young Dudes,” became their biggest hit.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer recorded their performance of “Pictures at anExhibition” live in Newcastle, England, on this day in 1971. The resulting album would hit the top ten in the US, and #3 in their home country.

And birthday greetings to Aerosmith’s one and only frontman Steven Tyler. The vocal half of the “Toxic Twins” is turning 73.
