In 1975, Led Zeppelin’s double album Physical Graffiti hit #1 on the U.S. charts, where it would stay for six weeks. It had already topped the British charts the week before.
Pink Floyd had to be convinced by their label to put “Another Brick in the Wall Part II” out as a single. Today in 1980, it became their first and only #1 in America.
And manager Ian Copeland signed his brother Stewart’s group, The Police, to a contract with A&M Records on this day in 1978.
