March 20 |
Two weddings are on the Rock Calendar for March 20th. In 1969, John Lennon married Yoko Ono on the Rock of Gibraltar. The complicated story of their wedding and honeymoon were the basis for the Beatles song, “The Ballad of John and Yoko.”
A year later, David Bowie married Mary Angela Barnett, reportedly the inspiration for the Rolling Stones song, “Angie,” a rumor both Mick and Keith later denied.
And Janis Joplin had her #1 hit on this day in 1971 with her version of “Me and Bobby McGee.” Sadly, she didn’t survive long enough to see it.
