On this day in 1978, The Grateful Dead became the first American rock band to headline a concert in front of the great Pyramids in Cairo, Egypt. The recording wouldn’t be officially released by the band until 2008.  

And in 1970 British rock journal “Melody Maker” reported that Led Zeppelin had replaced the Beatles as Great Britain’s most popular group, ending an 8 year run for the Fab Four.  

“Are You Experienced”, the debut album from The Jimi Hendrix Experience, entered the charts today in 1967, where it’d stay for the next 106 weeks.
