The band called The Herd formed on this day in 1966, featuring Stephen Stills, Ritchie Furay and Neil Young. A short time later, they decided to change it to Buffalo Springfield.

In 1967, The Jeff Beck Group made their live debut in London. The former Yardbirds lead guitarist’s new band featured Ron Wood on bass and Rod Stewart on vocals.

And in 1983, a convicted former Hell’s Angels member testified that there was a contract out on Mick Jagger’s life. It dated back to things Jagger said about the Hell’s Angels after the tragic Stones concert at Altamont.
