It spent eight weeks at #1, but on this day in 1981, John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Double Fantasy” album was finally knocked out of first place. The new #1 was “Hi Infidelity,” REO Speedwagon’s breakthrough, which would spend a total of 15 weeks in the top spot.

The Rolling Stones released “Not Fade Away” on this day in 1964. The Buddy Holly cover would become their first Top 10 single in their home country.

And in 1967, Pink Floyd started their first sessions at Abbey Road Studios, for what would become the ‘Piper at the Gates of Dawn’ album. In the room next door, The Beatles were working on the Sgt. Pepper song, ‘Fixing A Hole.’
