February 1

Happy Birthday to Gainesville’s own Mike Campbell who turns 71 today; he was Tom Petty’s right hand man in The Heartbreakers. Since then, he’s toured with Fleetwood Mac and leads his own band, The Dirty Knobs.

On this day in 1967, Pink Floyd signed their first recording contract with EMI Records. They also were in the studio, adding overdubs to their debut single, “Arnold Layne.”

And on this day in 1964 the Beatles had their first #1 single in the US, ”I Want To Hold Your Hand.” It’d stay there for seven weeks total.
