Today in Rock History with Chris DeCarlo

January 31

It was just after 3 in the morning on this day in 1970 the Grateful Dead were arrested at their hotel after a concert in New Orleans. This is the drug bust mentioned in the song “Truckin‘,” where guitarist Bob Weir claims they were set up.

Today in 1985 former Creedence Clearwater Revival leader John Fogerty would play his first live concert in 14 years at A&M studios in Hollywood. The show was recorded for a cable TV special.

And today in 1969, Led Zeppelin played the first of two nights at New York’s legendary Fillmore East, opening for Iron Butterfly.
