Rock lost a pair of talented guitarists on this day. Terry Kath of the group Chicago accidentally shot himself at a friend’s house in Los Angeles in 1978.
And in 1990, Allen Collins, one of the founding guitarists of Lynyrd Skynyrd, died from pneumonia after a long illness. He co-wrote many of their classic songs including Free Bird, Gimme Three Steps, and That Smell.
And record releases on this day in rock included the 1969 farewell album from 60’s supergroup Cream, titled “Goodbye” and Pink Floyd’s “Animals” in 1977.
