“PAUL MCCARTNEY BUSTED IN JAPAN!” was the headline around the world today in 1980. At Tokyo International Airport, they found nearly a half-pound of marijuana in Paul’s suitcases. It was McCartney’s third major pot bust.

The Whiskey A-Go-Go opened in Los Angeles today in 1963. The Whiskey became the proving ground for some of L.A.’s best bands including Buffalo Springfield, Alice Cooper, The Doors, The Byrds, and more.

And speaking of the Byrds, they were among the artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on this day in 1991.
