British art-rockers King Crimson played together for the first time today in 1969. Robert Fripp, Ian McDonald–later a member of Foreigner–and vocalist Greg Lake were all part of the band. A year later, Fripp was the only one who was still an official member.
Eric Clapton’s star-studded “Rainbow Concert” was today in 1973 at London’s Rainbow Theater. Pete Townshend organized it with friends Steve Winwood, Ron Wood and others to help Clapton return to the stage.
And in 1978, The Police began recording their debut album at Surrey Sound Studios in England with a tight budget: a $3000 loan from Stewart Copeland’s brother, Miles.
