The Doors released their first album today in 1967. Considered one of the best debut albums ever, it went to #2 on the charts and scored a number one single with “Light My Fire.”  

Thin Lizzy leader Phil Lynott died of heart failure and pneumonia on this day in 1986. He’d collapsed on Christmas day after suffering from a number of ailments, including kidney failure.  

And in 1968, UCLA announced that the Rolling Stones would now be part of the curriculum for music degrees because of their important contribution to modern music.
