One of the most important telephone calls in Rock History was made on New Year’s Eve, 1974, when Mick Fleetwood phoned Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham to ask them if they wanted to join Fleetwood Mac.

Today in 1969, Jimi Hendrix’s new group, Band of Gypsies, made their onstage debut, playing two shows at the Fillmore East in New York City. The following day’s performances would be released three months later as “Band of Gypsies.”

And Happy Birthday to Police guitarist Andy Summers. He turns 78.
