August 16th

  • Millions mourned worldwide on August 16, 1977, when the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, died of a heart attack in his Graceland mansion. He was just 42 years old.
  • Genesis parted ways with Peter Gabriel on this day in 1975. They would audition over 400 singers before deciding that his replacement was already in the band: Phil Collins.
  • In 1968, The Beatles were in the studio recording George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Eric Clapton wouldn’t put his iconic lead guitar parts on it until 3 weeks later.
