Wrong-way dirt bike rider arrested after wild chase on US 441 in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A man was arrested June 11 after allegedly riding a dirt bike the wrong way on South U.S. Highway 441 and attempting to flee law enforcement.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Edwin Cruz Gomez was seen weaving through traffic and performing wheelies before his bike went down.

MCSO says that K-9 Corporal Demarco caught up with him as he tried to restart the bike and tackled him, but Gomez fled on foot.

Deputies say he attempted to double back to the bike, but Cpl. Demarco apprehended him again and took him into custody without further incident.

Gomez was charged with reckless driving and resisting arrest.

MCSO also thanked a citizen who stepped in to assist during the incident stating, “A special thank you to the citizen who stepped in to help—your support didn’t go unnoticed.”
