OCALA, FL. (352 Today) — A temporary service disruption is affecting Verizon customers in Marion County, preventing them from being able to text 9-1-1. The outage is the result of a cut fiber line, according to local emergency communications officials.
Verizon is currently working to restore service, and the issue is expected to be resolved within six to eight hours. In the meantime, residents experiencing an emergency should call 9-1-1 directly, rather than attempting to send a text message.
For non-emergency assistance, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office has provided an alternate number: (352) 369-7070.
Authorities ask for patience during the outage and assure the public that all necessary steps are being taken to restore full functionality as soon as possible.
