Ocala, FL. (352Today) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon near the Paddock Mall, prompting a full closure of eastbound lanes on SW College Road, according to the Ocala Police Department.
The fatal collision occurred near the 3100 block of SW College Rd., where emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Police confirmed the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
All eastbound lanes in the area remain closed as of early afternoon, and motorists are urged to avoid the area while officers conduct a traffic homicide investigation.
“Please seek alternate routes and expect delays for the next several hours,” Ocala PD said in a public alert.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Drivers traveling along SR 200 should consider detours via SW 34th Avenue or SW 27th Avenue to reduce congestion.
