Private Plane Crash on S. Airport Road in Inverness, Two Patients Transported to Trauma Center

INVERNESS, FL (352today.com) – On August 14, 2025, at approximately 7:16 p.m., Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a reported plane crash on S. Airport Rd. in Inverness. Upon arrival, crews found a fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft on a berm with an active fuel leak.

Firefighters quickly secured the scene, shut off the aircraft’s fuel supply, and deployed a hose line for fire protection. Working alongside law enforcement officers, crews safely removed both occupants from the aircraft despite challenging terrain and hazards.

Two patients were transported for medical care; one was flown to a local trauma center and the other was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital.

The scene was turned over to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office at the request of the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, which will conduct the investigation into the incident.

Citrus County Fire Rescue commends the rapid coordination between fire, EMS, and law enforcement personnel to ensure safety and quick response.
