OCALA, FL (352 TODAY)Big Lee’s Barbecue isn’t just a local favorite anymore – it’s become a regional food destination, thanks to a viral TikTok video that’s got barbecue lovers driving from as far away as Texas.

The TikTok video, which currently has over 8.3 million views, features a Texan making a detour on a work trip to Miami – just to try Big Lee’s Barbecue in Ocala, Florida. Coming from a state renowned for its barbecue, they wanted to see what the hype was about. In the video, they order the famous brisket, ribs, mac and cheese, and sweet tea.

But for Ocala locals, this isn’t surprising.

For over a decade, Rashad Jones, owner and pitmaster of Big Lee’s, has built a loyal following through unmatched flavor and heartfelt hospitality. What started as a single food truck in 2014, named in honor of his late uncle Leon. Since then, they’ve grown into a Marion County staple with multiple locations and national attention.

According to the story shared on Big Lee’s Barbecue’s official website, Rashad Jones reflected on the inspiration behind his business: “We lost Uncle Leon in 2012,” he wrote. “His joy for cooking and sharing food still inspires me. This is about more than just barbecue—it’s about honoring him with every plate we serve”



Recent reviews back it up. One Yelp reviewer called the customer service “A1,” while another praised the clean space and welcoming staff. Facebook commenters have shared stories of driving 7+ hours just to eat at Big Lee’s, and now, thanks to TikTok, even more barbecue fans are adding Ocala to their food bucket list.
