OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A youth baseball coach has been arrested after multiple juveniles came forward with allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior, according to the Ocala Police Department (OPD).

John James Sales, 29, was taken into custody on June 25 and charged with lewd or lascivious molestation and conduct. Police say the abuse spanned several years and involved multiple victims in Marion and Citrus counties.

The investigation began March 31 when a teen’s mother reported unwanted physical contact and inappropriate conversations. Police say more victims came forward during the investigation. Sales also volunteered in church youth programs, which put him in regular contact with children.

“Through the cooperation of victims and families, and by conducting forensic interviews, evidence was gathered that led to Sales’ arrest,” OPD said. “He was charged … and taken to the Marion County Jail.”

Police believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“We commend the bravery of the victims who spoke out and encourage others to report abuse,” OPD said. “Protecting our children is our top priority. These allegations are extremely serious, and we are committed to doing everything possible to ensure that justice is served.”
