Ocala police say teen was drunk and driving 120 mph when he caused a crash that killed a husband and wife

OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Ocala Police Department (OPD) made an arrest in connection with a deadly crash that killed a husband and wife almost four months ago.

OPD says they arrested 17-year-old Frank Scudder IV on Tuesday morning on felony charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.

The arrest stems from a fatal crash that occurred on February 20 around 8:30 p.m. near the 1500 block of SE 36th Ave.

OPD officers responded to the two-vehicle crash and witnessed one car fully engulfed in flames. With help from Ocala Fire Rescue workers, they were able to extinguish the fire. They say the car was occupied by a husband and wife. The husband was thrown from the vehicle, while the wife remained trapped inside. The couple was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers now say the other vehicle was occupied by Scudder who sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Police say the investigation into the crash revealed Scudder was driving over 120 mph moments before the crash. OPD says there was no evidence of Scudder braking.

Police say a test revealed Scudder’s blood alcohol level was .188 at the time which is more than twice the legal limit of .08 in Florida. Scudder was arrested for two counts of driving under the influence manslaughter, two counts of vehicular manslaughter, and three counts of DUI property damage.

“The Ocala Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends affected by this tragedy,” said OPD in a Facebook post. “DUI-related crashes have severe consequences on our community. We take these cases seriously and are committed to bringing justice to the victims and their loved ones. We urge everyone to make responsible choices behind the wheel and never drink and drive.”
