OCALA, FL (352today.com) — Community members and public servants were recognized Tuesday evening during the June 17 Ocala City Council meeting for their lasting contributions to the city.
Highlights from the meeting included:
- Mayor’s Citizen Recognition Award: Larry and Darnitha Johnson were honored by Mayor Ben Marciano for their ongoing contributions to improving the Ocala community.
- Faith and Family Proclamation: Louine Ek received a special proclamation from the mayor recognizing the importance of faith and family values in the community.
- Public Safety Service Awards: Ocala Police Department employees Elissa Hughes-King and Mathew Steckman were acknowledged for 15 and 20 years of service, respectively. Mayor Marciano and City Manager Pete Lee presented the recognitions.
- Citizens Academy Graduation: Members of the 2025 Citizens Academy cohort were celebrated for completing the 11-week program, which offers residents a behind-the-scenes look at city operations and leadership.
