Meet Dante: An Affectionate, Tennis-Ball Loving Gentleman Ready for His Forever Home

ContributedDante is a 9 year old boxer mix who is playful, gentle, and looking for his forever home. Natalia Rodriguez-Juarez

A long-time resident – and undeniable favorite – of the Humane Society of Marion County, Mr. Dante is ready to trade shelter life for a loving home of his own.

This nine-year young sweetheart has the energy of a pup and a heart full of love. A simple guy with simple needs, Dante’s happiness comes from the basics: food, water, back scratches, and above all… tennis balls. In fact, tennis balls are his comfort object – like a child with a cherished blanket. Once he has one in his mouth, it’s game over – he’s not letting it go! Combine that with his endearing clumsiness, and you have a bundle of joy just waiting to brighten your life.

Dante first came to the shelter in 2019 and has been adopted twice – and returned twice – through no foult of his own. He’s great with older kids, but he’s not the best fit for homes with cats or small children. He’s well mannered gentleman who is ready to sweep you off your feet.

This strong and affectionate boxer mix is the ultimate “bro with a heart of gold,” equally happy chasing a ball or curling up for a back scratch. Bonus: he’s also a total chick magnet and the perfect wingman.

Now, Dante’s hoping that the third time really is the charm. Here’s the best part – he’s a sponsored dog, which means you can adopt him for free at the Humane Society of Marion County.
