BELLEVIEW, Fl. (352 Today) – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), along with the City of Belleview, the Ocala Marion Transportation Planning Organization, and the National Coalition for Safer Roads, will hold an event on Wednesday, August 6, in Belleview to commemorate National Stop on Red Week.
This awareness campaign aims to educate drivers about the dangers of red-light running and to help reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes. In 2023, Florida had 33,045 crashes caused by drivers who didn’t stop on red. From those crashes, 84 people were killed and 681 people were seriously injured.

Speakers will be available under the Target Zero tent. Media can stage there. Public outreach will occur at the nearby intersection of U.S. 301 and U.S. 441.
Following the speakers, teams will stage at the intersection corners with “Stop on Red” signs as a visual reminder to motorists. Interview opportunities will be available.
Two other National Stop on Red Week events are scheduled in Central Florida this week: on Thursday, August 7, in Daytona Beach, and Friday, August 8, in West Melbourne.
