MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Tuesday morning, Marion County Parks & Recreation held a groundbreaking ceremony for the future Taxiway A at Marion County Airport X35. Parks & Recreation leadership, alongside Chairman Kathy Bryant, Dunnellon Mayor Walter Green, members of the Marion County Administration, the Ocala/Marion County Chamber and Economic Partnership, and others overseeing the project, were also present for the ceremony.
The project includes the construction of a new 35-foot-wide taxiway parallel to Runway 5-23 as well as updated grading, drainage, lighting, signage, and markings. When complete, the taxiway will enhance airport operations, strengthen aviation safety, and position Marion County for continued economic prosperity.
Two organizations contributed funding for this project: the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Together, these two organizations provided 98% of the total project cost for the new taxiway. Other partners on the project include CWR Contracting, and Hoyle-Tanner and Associates, the engineer of record.
“The construction of this taxiway is a clear representation of progress, partnership, and our continued investment in the future of Marion County,” said Marion County Parks & Recreation Director Jim Couillard. “We look forward to seeing what doors this addition opens for the Marion County Airport because it’s not just 35 feet of taxiway, it’s a pathway to progress.”
