Lake County Opening Cold Weather Shelter Starting Tonight

LAKE COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Lake County will operate a cold-weather shelter at LifePointe Church, 3551 E. Orange Ave. in Eustis, on the following nights:

  • · Friday, Jan. 16 (opens at 5 p.m.; closes at 7 a.m. Saturday)
  • · Sunday, Jan. 18 (opens at 5 p.m.; closes at 7 a.m. Monday)
  • · Monday, Jan. 19 (opens at 5 p.m.; closes at 7 a.m. Tuesday)
  • · Tuesday, Jan. 20 (opens at 5 p.m.; closes at 7 a.m. Wednesday)

Please note that the shelter will not be open Saturday evening, Jan. 17, as forecasted conditions are not expected to meet the cold-weather threshold for activation. Lake County will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if conditions change.

Additionally, the shelter operates only overnight and is closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on any day of operation.

Lake County’s Office of Emergency Management is also coordinating with the Salvation Army in Leesburg to operate a daytime warming center at 2605 South St., open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.

Lake County Transit will provide free transportation via fixed route (LakeXpress), paratransit (Lake County Connection), and a cold-weather shelter shuttle. For LakeXpress fixed-route information, call (352) 742-1940. For Lake County Connection paratransit service, call (352) 742-2612.
