LADY LAKE (352today.com) – Mayor Ed Freeman has been recognized with the 2026 Home Rule Hero Award from the Florida League of Cities for his advocacy on behalf of municipalities during the 2026 Florida Legislative Session.
Freeman received the award in May during a meeting of the Heartland League of Cities, where he currently serves as president.
The Home Rule Hero Award is presented annually to local government leaders who actively engage with state lawmakers and advocate for issues affecting Florida’s cities. According to the Florida League of Cities, recipients are selected based on their responsiveness to legislative issues and efforts to communicate local concerns to policymakers throughout the legislative process.
The award recognizes elected and appointed officials who work to ensure municipal perspectives are considered when state legislation is developed and debated. The Florida League of Cities said Home Rule Heroes help promote local decision-making and protect the ability of municipalities to address the unique needs of their communities.
Freeman joins other local leaders from across the state who were recognized for their commitment to strengthening local government and advocating on behalf of residents during the 2026 session.
