Drugs, Weapons and Batteries Lead to String of Arrests in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported a string of arrests last week stemming from separate incidents that involved drugs, suspended licenses, batteries and illegal weapons.

Deputy Jett Bloom conducted a traffic stop in the 2900 block of SE 62nd Street after learning the registered owner of a vehicle had a suspended license, according to the sheriff’s office. Bloom made contact with the driver, identified as Tammy Williams, who admitted she did not have a valid license. Williams was placed under arrest. A further investigation revealed the passenger, Cara Carver, was in possession of drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine, deputies said. Both Williams and Carver were transported to the Marion County Jail. Upon arrival, detention deputies discovered Williams was also carrying additional cocaine.

In another case, Deputy Seeley responded to the 20600 block of SE 156th Street in reference to a reported battery. Investigators said Jose Vazquez struck a female victim with a metal pipe while she slept in a tent. A second victim witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene, but Vazquez allegedly threatened him with the pipe as well. Vazquez was later located and arrested on charges of aggravated battery and assault, deputies said. He was transported to the Marion County Jail.

Deputies also responded to a burglary with a battery at the Pilot Travel Center on SW Highway 484. Deputy Jorge-Rios made contact with a suspect identified as Aaliyah Greene, who admitted to striking the victim during an argument. Investigators said Greene reached into the victim’s vehicle and struck her several times, leaving visible injuries. She was taken into custody and booked into jail.

Meanwhile, Deputy Canton stopped a vehicle for a headlight violation and identified the driver as Jason Daymon, who did not have a valid license. During the arrest, deputies located cocaine, fentanyl and drug paraphernalia in his possession, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies said Daymon initially resisted arrest but was ultimately detained without further incident and transported to jail.

Another traffic stop led to the arrest of a convicted felon in possession of drugs and a firearm. Deputy Heber was patrolling in the 9200 block of 187th Terrace when he recognized Cody Hawk behind the wheel. Knowing Hawk’s license was suspended, Herber initiated a stop. Hawk admitted he was driving with a suspended license and told deputies he had narcotics in the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and a handgun, the sheriff’s office said. Records show Hawk is a convicted felon and currently on probation for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was arrested on multiple charges and booked into the Marion County Jail.
