BELLEVIEW, FL (352 Today) — The City of Belleview is pleased to announce the reclassification of Robert Vass to the newly created position of Community Engagement Liaison, a role that reflects the significant expansion of responsibilities he has taken on since joining the City in June 2024. This new position recognizes Vass’s positive impact in public events, outreach, and strategic communications, while positioning him to further develop programs and partnerships that foster strong community connections.
Since arriving in Belleview, Vass has had a transformative benefit on several of the City’s public-facing initiatives. In his expanded role, he will continue to oversee the planning and execution of major community events including Friday Foodie Fest, Founders Day, Light Up Lake Lillian, the Freedom Walk, Trunk or Treat, and other City sponsored events that are central to Belleview’s small-town charm and community pride. Under his guidance, these events have grown in scale, community participation, and local business involvement.
Vass has increased public-private partnerships, securing sponsorships and support from local businesses and nonprofit organizations to enhance City programs. His ability to cultivate these relationships has helped fund events and initiatives, and increased collaboration between the City and the residents it serves. Expanding educational and wellness-based programming at the Belleview Community Center, new initiatives include the monthly Homeschool Hub program, community health screenings, and financial awareness events have provided valuable services and engagement opportunities to residents of all ages.
In the past year, Vass has elevated the City’s online presence, curating content that is informative, accessible, and reflective of the community’s personality. The City’s Facebook and Instagram platforms have grown by over 1,500 followers, helping to broaden outreach and improve access to timely information. Additionally, the City website underwent a comprehensive redesign to increase functionality and accessibility by the community at large.
Beyond programming and communications, Vass coordinates the City’s Property Improvement Grant Program, designed to encourage reinvestment and beautification within the community. He contributes to public messaging by coordinating press releases and media communications, and actively represents the City at events hosted by the Ocala Metro Chamber & Economic Partnership (CEP) and other regional organizations.
Vass manages the Belleview Youth Council, guiding local high school students in leadership development and civic education. Additionally, he serves as part of the City Administration Office, offering general support to operations under the direction of City Administrator Mariah Moody.
“I’m incredibly honored to take on this expanded role with the City of Belleview,” said Vass. “Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside dedicated colleagues and engaging with a welcoming community. I look forward to continuing our work together as we create spaces where people can connect and take pride in being part of Belleview’s story.”
City Administrator Mariah Moody expressed enthusiastic support for Vass’s promotion, noting the comprehensive scope of his contributions.
“Some may say that Robert’s role is one of a ‘Chief Fun Officer,’ and while fun is certainly part of the job, what he brings to our organization is far more impactful,” said Moody. “Robert has an exceptional ability to blend creativity with strategy. His professionalism, experience, and commitment to service have elevated the way we connect with our residents. From planning events to supporting regional partnerships, he embodies the kind of forward-thinking leadership that helps our city grow.”
Vass holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Southern Connecticut State University and a Master of Professional Studies in Strategic Public Relations from The George Washington University. Prior to his work in municipal government, he spent over two decades in higher education administration, managing campus housing operations and serving as a senior leader in student affairs, and working for Sheltering Hands, a local nonprofit cat rescue in Ocala. His experiences included responsibilities in staffing, crisis management, budget oversight, community outreach, programming and facilities planning—skills that now support his success in local government. When not at work, Vass enjoys traveling with his wife and pampering their three cats.
As Community Engagement Liaison, Vass will continue to serve as a bridge between the City and the people it serves.
