OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A Belleview man was killed early Monday morning in a crash involving a motorcycle and a sedan on County Road 25 near Southeast 108th Terrace Road, according tot he Florida Highway Patrol (FHP)
Troopers say the crash occurred around 2:55 a.m. on July 7 in Marion County, when a sedan driven by a 21-year-old man from Ocklawaha struck the rear of a slower-moving motorcycle while both were traveling eastbound. The impact caused the motorcycle to veer off the roadway.
The 47-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. FHP confirmed that he had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. His next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt, troopers said. No other occupants were reported in either vehicle.
According to FHP, the sedan approached the motorcycle from behind and collided with the rear of the bike, pushing it off the roadway. FHP did not indicate whether charges are pending of if impairment or speed were factors in the collision.
The crash temporarily blocked the eastbound lane of County Road 25 while authorities investigated and cleared the roadway.
Both the crash investigator, Trooper B. Jimenez, and Corporal J. Gurrieri, the homicide investigator, responded to the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
