‘florida/woman’ is a body of photographic self-portraits focused on Carter’s experience as a trans woman who has chosen to remain in Florida. This series is about feeling trapped in a beloved home that also wants you dead. A quintessential Florida experience only heightened; the wild joy mixed with eerie foreboding we all feel when venturing deep into nature. Her project makes visible the relationship between the trans body and the local environment, imbuing the landscape with an embodied politics.
This exhibition is part of a series of two week long artist-curated exhibitions at GFAA
