North Central Florida Media in Ocala is looking for an energetic, driven, digital-savvy reporter for the online local news site 352today.com. The reporter will focus on crime, courts, civic issues, and schools but will have opportunities to cover a wide array of topics as part of a four-member news team.
Typical duties will include:
· Reporting, writing and posting news articles, primarily on the topic of crime, courts and schools.
· Writing on average one article per day while developing investigative projects.
· Taking photos and video as needed.
· Crafting and posting social media content (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
· Using audience metrics to improve story ideas and storytelling strategies.
· Engaging with the community to develop sourcing, both in-person and on social media.
· Representing the company to the public to provide excellent customer service.
The ideal candidate will have:
· A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field.
· Journalism experience as an intern, in college media or the professional industry.
· Top-notch writing ability.
· A proactive attitude toward identifying and pitching stories of importance to the community
· Active engagement in social media platforms.
· The ability to learn and adapt quickly to emerging technologies.
· Teamwork skills for effective work in a collaborative, supportive environment.
