Here’s your latest Internet optical illusion . . .
And even though the lines of the grid aren’t very big, our eyes color in the areas in between them. So it makes the entire photo look like it’s in color, especially if you move a few feet away from it.
The optical illusion works because our brains are constantly trying to predict what things are SUPPOSED to look like . . . so in this case, it’s filling in colors because it thinks that’s right.

This optical illusion is because of the fact that the human retina has about 120 million receptors for black and white vision (rods) and only 6 million for color vision (cones), so most of our color vision comes from our brain filling in the gaps by interpolation.
